National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (N.P.L.Q.)

Pool Lifeguarding

The N.P.L.Q. is widely accepted by swimming pools both in the U.K. and Ireland with over 37,000 qualifications awarded per annum. It also has widespread international recognition significantly through the International Life Saving Federation.

The award is managed by the Institute of Qualified Lifeguards (I.Q.L.) on behalf of the Royal Life Saving Society UK (R.L.S.S.) and is designed to ensure pool lifeguards and operators are equipped to deal wih almost any water emergency. The N.P.L.Q. meets the requirement of the Health and Safety Executive (H.S.E.) publication 'managing health and safety in swimming pools'

Monmouth School Sports Club is an approved training centre and during the course you will be taught skills that include:

The Principles of pool lifeguarding

Water rescue skills including timed swim rescues to conscious and unconscious casualties

CPR skills on adult, child and infant

First Aid where you will demonstate a knowledge of selected first aid conditions and advising on poolside treatment

Monday 30th July - Friday 3rd August 2012

Cost: £230.00

Every Candidate prior to commencement of training for the N.P.L.Q. Course must:-

Be 16 years of age or over

Be able to jump or dive into deep water

Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds

Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water

Tread water for 30 seconds

Surface dive to the floor of the pool (please note Monmouth Sports Club swimming pool is 3 metres deep)

Climb out unaided without use of ladder/steps and where the pool design permits
